Making Room

We did not all come over on the same ship, but we are all in the same boat.”

Bernard Baruch

The writing/blogging community is SO supportive of one another. I’ve mentioned this on many occasions. We stand by to cheer each other on during those times of triumph, and lift each other up when disappointment comes our way. We help promote one another’s books and blogs. We write reviews, buy books and post positive comments on Facebook. And it is an incredible thing. Who better to understand us than someone who is walking the same the path?

As great as what this community of writers/ bloggers is there are so many other people who can use support. My hope is that I will never become so wrapped up in my own journey that I will ignore all those who are out there in need of my help. There are so many people out there who can use some positive reinforcements. I sometimes need to remind myself that there is more to life than writing, and more people out there who are in need. I am one, but there are many others who need consideration.

I am fortunate enough to have the support of many people who do not belong to the writing/blogging community, yet their support means just as much to me. They are not walking the path by my side but they will be waiting for me at the end.

We are all on this journey called life; some of us are on the same path, but not all of us. The boat may not look that big but there’s still plenty of space for us all. We need only make room.

  1. What a wonderful tribute to the Blogging Community. And not just bloggers but internet supporters. I have met so many terrific people since creating my blog in 2008. One of the best things I ever did for myself. I love the Internet!

Have a super weekend, Laura. Hope the weather is kind.

    • It is amazing how we become friends with these people online. Isn’t Wendy? I think if someone had asked me a few years back if this was at all possible I probably would have said, no. There ya go. Guess I don’t know everything,

Very nice, Laura. If our boat isn’t big enough to accommodate everyone: should we be selective? should we provide life jackets? should we give swimming lessons? should we build a fleet? should we teach shipbuilding skills? Or should we stay on shore where we belong? How’s that for extending a metaphor and causing dissension?

    • LOL! I was SO laughing at your comment. I think you could get me in a LOT of trouble if I let you so I think I’ll stick to my original metaphor and call it good! Better safe than sorry.LOL

  4. It is a privilege to support one another. I like the photo of the boat and that beautiful blue water! Being on the same boat, all living on this spinning globe together, we need one another. Blessings to you, Laura…

    • I like the photo, too. The water was beautiful that day and that poor little boat seemed so lonely. When I snapped it I didn’t have plans of using it in a post. I say when in doubt snap lots of pics. You just never know.

  5. Bang on, Laura. Both your points of view. I would have felt just like you, once, about the internet and “social media.” But it’s a wonderful place to support and interact, inside and outside the writing community. There have been a couple of deaths and some grieving on the part of two of my facebook friends in the past week. While they’re getting support, obviously, from friends and family immediately around them, they are also turning to their internet community for support from their extended family. And getting it. We all note the passing of animal friends to, whose deaths previously have gone largely unnoticed in the broader community.

    • I am surprised by the depth at which I feel connected to the people I have met in Cyberspace. When someone hasn’t been posting for awhile or not commenting I begin to wonder if they are alright. If they are going through a tough time we all jump in and try to help. We really are all connected.
