A Step Back in Time

Earlier this week I came across a copy of the Star Weekly Magazine published back in 1951. I love that time period! I took some photos of some of the ads from years ago and decided to share them. I think I’ll let the photos speak for themselves. We don’t see ads like these anymore, do we? Keep in mind the magazine’s been folded up for sixty years and so the quality of the photos is not great.

  4. Thanks for sharing, Laura. The imagines, particular the Soup for Lunch, remind me of the illustrations in the Dick and Jane elementary books.

These are great references for a story set in that time.

  5. Thanks for the memories, Laura…we used to get Star Weekly when I first moved to Canada in 1969. Love vintage ads too!

  7. Brings back memories. Can’t remember how many times we had tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch. The photos were wonderful.

Hey, the Campbell Soup labels look pretty much the same as they do now lol. I guess some things never change!

Cool ads, they’d look neat framed and hung on a wall.
