On our last trip to New Brunswick we went to see the Hopewell Rocks. We’d been wanting to go for awhile now, but it never happened. This time our daughter actually scheduled a time for us to go between bites of birthday cake (Yes, Miss Charlotte turned one year only recently) and trips to Princess Auto.
These beautiful rocks have been carved out by the Bay of Fundy millions of years ago. They’re also called the giant Flowerpot Rocks.

From a writerly point of view, there are so many inspiring places in nature. Aren’t there? Could you imagine yourself standing at the top of one of these Flowerpots looking down into the Bay? What is it about nature that inspires us the way man-made structures cannot? I’m not sure anyone has ever looked at a paved parking lot or a skyscraper and felt inspired.
Have you found a favourite place that inspires you? Is there some place in nature you’re looking forward to visiting, Niagara Falls, The Grand Canyon, The Pyramids?

I like mountains. I lived for a short time in Nashville, Tennessee. The hills were beautiful. I called them mountains, but my friends told me they were hills. They were lovely, whatever they were. Blessings…

There are so many things I want to see: the Brazilian rainforest, Easter Island, Stonehenge … I could go on forever. Tropical oceans are something I can never get enough of. Negril, Jamaica is paradise.

/ April 30, 2011Fabulous pictures! Thanks for sharing Laura. There is so much in my own country I have yet to see. I hate to admit I haven’t been to Naigra Falls. So much of nature is inspiring and there are many spots here on the west coast that serve that purpose. But also get inspired in big cities. I love the variety of people and the architecture. Barcelona certainly inspired me in my writing. So many places to visit – so little time.

/ May 1, 2011Lovely pictures, Laura. I haven’t been to the Rocks, yet, but will within the next few years. Each summer, I take the kids on several ‘road trips’. I have a navigator in the front seat, pouring over the map book, ticking off the places as we pass through, and a communication officer in the back who answers the cell phone if it rings. The third ‘personnel’ is on break in the back seat. They switch positions at various stops. So far, we’ve covered much of the perimetre of Nova Scotia, stopping at every provincial (and non-provincial) beach we can find.
There are so many beautiful and unique places in Atlantic Canada that I’ll spend the next five or six years exploring them and sharing them with the kids.
Places on my bucket list include: L’anse Meadows in Newfoundland, glaciers in Alaska, Grand Canyon, Isle of Skye, Sable Island, Iceland and Stonehenge.

We do have many great places to visit in Atlantic Canada. We used to take our kids to various places around the province when they were little as well. I’m hoping to make it to Joggins sometime this year. Sounds like a cool place to visit. Hopefully, we’ll be able to squeeze out the time.Summer and fall are super busy for us.
