“That proves you are unusual, returned the Scarecrow; and I am convinced the only people worthy of consideration in this world are the unusual ones. For the common folks are like the leaves of a tree, and live and die unnoticed.”
Lyman Frank Baum
We missed the scarecrow festival in Mahone Bay the other weekend because of the rainy weather. It was one of the events I had wanted to take in this year, but sometimes things in life don’t work out the way we plan. Still, there were plenty of scarecrows hanging around this weekend when we took a drive to the shore. Here’s a peak at a few of them.

/ October 17, 2011What a fun festival! 🙂 I haven’t seen any scarecrows where I live so your pictures pulled me right into the spirit of fall! Thank you for sharing.

/ October 17, 2011We certainly enjoyed seeing the scarecrows and, hopefully, next year we’ll actually be able to take in the festival. I love seeing the scarecrows, and seeing all the work and imagination that goes along with it. 🙂

/ October 17, 2011Oh my! Such wonderful creations. Love the one in the boat and that gorgeous one under the sign that looks like it’s made from a clematis vine or some such material.

/ October 17, 2011They were all quite lovely, Laurie. The scarecrow under the sign is for a clothing company (Suttles and Seawinds) that produces clothing. Quite naturally, her dress is lovely.

/ October 17, 2011Such creativity! There is fun in life if we look for it.
It’s time to watch the “Wizard of Oz” again. I used to watch it with my kids every year. We also watched “Sound of Music” over and over again around the holidays. Blessings to you…

/ October 17, 2011Love the quote and the pictures of the scarcrows are awesome! You don’t see many scarecrows on the west coast so it was real treat. I am happy to be somewhat unusual!

/ October 17, 2011I thought the quote was quite poignant and a slight bit sad at the same time. Glad to be able to show you some east coast scarecrows!!

/ October 17, 2011What a fun application of creativity! Great variety! With Halloween approaching I wonder if one I discovered last year will turn up again. Whenever I drove by the house it seemed like the same old guy was always napping in the swing on their porch. On closer inspection it was a scarecrow lounging there, hat tipped over its non-existent face. LOL.

/ October 20, 2011That is such a true quote from Baum. It’s the “common folk” who make the whole go round.
Such gorgeous photographs. They cheer me up after almost being scammed out of $2000 dollars, as you found out when you came over just now and commented on my post. Thanks for stopping by! And I’m so glad I came over here!!

/ October 21, 2011Yes Ann, we do need common folk in our lives as well and needless to say we will not all do extraordinary things. That said, we might all have a definition of what extraordinary means to each one of us. It might not necessarily be something earth shattering, yet we can all make a difference.
As I said in my comment, I’m so glad you didn’t get scammed. It’s always nice to have you visit, Ann.
