MIA

Just in case any of you are wondering, I haven’t gone any place. I’m just having some computer issues and it’s making my life most challenging these days. I’m hoping to set up a time to take my computer into the shop. But until then I’m very limited as to what I can and can’t do online. I’ve been reading a few blogs but I can’t leave comments and  only the text is coming up. So if you’ve you’ve posted any photos I can’t see them. Facebook is even worse. It looks pretty bare bones. And although “Flying with a Broken Wing is available for pre-order on Amazon.ca, all the clicking in the world won’t let me see the cover of my book on the site. I know it’s there.  http://www.amazon.ca/Flying-With-Broken-Wing-Laura/dp/1771080388  but I can’t even add the link here on my blog. NO fun..

Publication is a little over three months away. Time is closing in, and I’m started to get excited. In other news, a brand-spanking new Advanced Reading Copy arrived in my mailbox a few days back. You’ll have to take my word on it since — you guess it—I can’t add a photo. Oh bother. Here’s hoping I’m able to get back up and running at full capacity before too long.I miss you all.

Hope you’re having better luck than I have been.

  1. I have finally got the ball rolling with createspace/amazon for first cartoon book. Self upload was beyond my ability as there is a several stage formatting from image to word. Then with text the page margins(gutters) are set up just once for the text run. Since all 100 images are different size each page has to be set up individually. It is time consuming for the techs and beside the basic start up fee I am paying an additional $8 per page for set up. I recently sent a CD with images and hope no more glitches arise. A good point is that each page will be in full color but this makes the production cost about $12 per book without counting amazon profit, other fee attachments and any royalty.

    Good luck with your effort.

  3. It’s not just you, Laura. I can’t see the cover on your Amazon link either. It says ‘cover not available. It sometimes takes a while for it to get uploaded from the publisher. I changed a book cover with Amazon ages ago and they still haven’t caught up. I’ll be trying again next week. Hope you get your computer issues solved soon. I can sympathize and empathize!

    • That reminds me, Penelope mentioned that the font could be changed so perhaps it isn’t the “official” cover and it won’t be up until then. Still trying to get in touch with my computer expert. Not having much luck, although I found out I’ll be needing my computer this weekend so maybe it’s not such a bad thing at the moment.

So that’s why you’ve been so quiet! 🙂 Glad to hear from you, but sorry to hear of the “technical difficulties.”

  5. We rely so much on our technology that when it lets us down it’s a horrible inconvenience. When it comes to online issues, sometimes it’s a computer problem, sometimes it’s a server problem, but either way it’s frustrating. Backing up files is my focus lately… or, more accurately, the unreliability of trusted backup options.

Hope your problems are remedied soon.

    • Backing up files is a must, Carol. As you say technology is grand but sometimes we put too much faith in it. I feel fortunate to be able to what little bit i CAN DO. i DID MANAGE TO SOLVE MY “no image” problem. It’s nice to be able to see folks on Facebook and see the photos they post. Now if I can get the rest solved. Guess I need to be patient.

  6. I so understand where you’re at, Laura. I’m wrapped up in family stuff, garage sales, and life in general. I haven’t been able to keep up with reading my favourite blogs, and it feels weird. But sometimes we simply need to regroup. I’m crossing my fingers that my ole Mac lasts another few years, glitches et el!

    • I’ve missed you Joylene! Lately whenever I stop by your blog I can’t get my computer to cooperate so I can post a comment. It’s frustrating. Glad to know you’re still out there. 🙂
