Lately, I’ve been having a lot of problems liking people, which is new for me since I generally get along well with others. Here’s the scoop. I’ll start with Facebook. I love Facebook, don’t get me wrong, but this past while I’ve noticed, I no sooner “like” something then I notice that “like” has been taken away, disappeared into the great wide world of the Internet. Zappo! Poof! I don’t think it’s just me and my slow connection since others seem to agree with, but not everyone. Some say it hasn’t been a problem for them. And it’s not just the likeability thing. I’m sometimes told I can’t comment or else the comment I make disappears too. Well, okay, I’ll accept that, but when I want to comment on my own status it’s a bit annoying to be told I’m not allowed to.
Is it fair to knock these free services? I’m not sure. Do we have a right to certain expectations? I kind of think so since the whole idea is for us to interact with one another. Free or not, it’s difficult not to find yourself grumbling a time or two when these things mess up so frequently.
Since were on the subject of likes:
Now onto WordPress. I love the “like “ button we now have, because let’s face it sometimes we just don’t have time to think up a comment or sometimes we just have nothing to add, but still want to say, “Hey, I liked your post!” It’s a support thing and it’s great. However, most of the time my “like” button won’t load. This, I’m fairly sure is because of my connection and not a whole lot I can do about it. Every now and then I’m surprised when everything loads properly. So, it’s not that I don’t “like” you all anymore. Really it’s not you…it’s me.
The last of the proofreading for my book was done over the long weekend. I swear no matter how many times something is proofread, by yourself and others, those nasty little typos are bound to appear from out of nowhere. It’s seems inevitable. Yet we all hope. My editor says it’s impossible to catch them all. It’s soon off to the printers! I’ve been in touch with the Publicist from Nimbus and we’ve discussed launch dates although at this point it’s a bit tricky since there’s always the chance that things will get tied up at the printers. Can’t have a launch if the books have been delayed, right? For now, I have a tentative date since I needed to book the community centre ahead of time. No official announcement yet. It’s all moving straight ahead.
Today Miss Charlotte comes to visit and we’re pretty excited. She hasn’t been down since Christmas. Hopefully, she’ll find lots to do and the weather will be great.

/ July 14, 2013I haven’t had a problem with Like appearing on WordPress that I know of. I assumed some blogger choose not to have it. I’ve looked for Like to do as you’ve said, “let me tell them I’ve enjoyed the post”. Sometimes I don’t have anything to add, so the Like is a good thing, but a few of the blogs I regularly read don’t have it.
Without the Like, I feel obligated to comment (maybe that is the motive to this method), but sometimes I’ve nothing to say so leave silently.
Proofreading: I’ve got an ARC book here to read too (but I won’t say whose it is 😉 ). It arrived about a week ago. I’ll have it read and reviewed by the time the launch happens.
What to do this week: build a chicken coop. That’s my goal.

Chicken coops are great. Whenever my dad built one us kids would decide it would be a great idea to sleep in it before the chickens arrived. I don’t think any of us ever made it to morning..lol!

/ July 14, 2013I haven’t had any trouble with ‘Liking’ someone else, but I can’t get my website to allow anyone to Like my blogs. I’ve tried and tried but, when it comes to the great universe of Widgets, they smile at me, promise me the world, and then don’t show up as promised! Love your post, Laura! This week I’ll be writing and getting everything ready for the next group of company heading our way. I hope to get in a bit of kayaking, too. My kayak, unlike those Widgets, is a reliable creature!

/ July 14, 2013I saw the “Like” button at the top of this post and clicked it and it’s showing up that I “Liked” it so at least today it’s working 🙂
As for the Facebook issues, I’m starting to notice that my Facebook comments are different than a few others, because under their “posts” the comments include an option to reply to each comment, where with my “posts” it’s just a free for all. I’d like the ability to reply to each comment, but I’m clueless as to how to get that option.
Technology….grrrrrrrr.
Now I’m off to make sure I’m following you on Facebook 🙂

/ July 14, 2013You topic is timely for me. Just last night someone in a FB group I’m in was having trouble seeing responses to one post. After several exchanges she ended up asking me to ‘friend’ her to see if that would solve her problem. I did, and then instantly regretted it. First came FB’s note that she had added me as ‘family’, which I thought was odd, then I got a *very* long chatty direct message from her… and another… and another. I haven’t ‘unfriended’ her yet, but am thinking I’ll have to. And that opens up a whole new debate about ‘likes’. 🙂
I haven’t had a problem with them on WordPress, but sometimes my blog features seem to take an extra long time to fully load and the ‘likes’ are one of the last to show up. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect promised features to work whether or not the application is free. My complaint is more that they keep changing features… supposedly for the sake of improvement, but the more sophisticated the application gets, the more complicated and unreliable it sometimes is. In a communications program I think simple but functional would be better, especially when there’s no instruction manual and users have to guess their way through problem solving.
Glad to hear you’ve finished the proofreading. That means we’re one step closer to seeing it on the shelves and that’s always a good thing!

I had the opportunity to ride my motorcycle through beautiful East Dalhousie on my return from Fox Mountain to Bridgewater. It was a great day to ride.. and all while I rode through that gorgeous countyside I smiled.. thinking about ‘Bittersweet’ and how East Dalhousie was the setting for that great book. I just got a small glimpse of it, I’m sure, because I didn’t leave the main road, but I had to tell you I was there. Just beautiful!

What are you up to this week?
We’re on horse watch this week. The horse, my daughter was riding in a show jumping competition, bruised a leg when it brushed up against a fence rail. Though the x-ray showed no structural damage and the bruise didn’t seem to be bad, it has our vet perplexed a bit. So, it’s a lot of back-and-forth to the stables and a lot of fretting by my daughter.
Are any of you are having a problem “liking” people?
