The Twelfth of Never

Has something in your life ever triggered a song to rise to the surface? I woke up with the Twelfth of Never rattling around my head. The version from the seventies– Donny Osmond– that I was crazy about at the time.  And just a little bit in love with Donny for a few short months. Weren’t most of us who grew up in the era?

But why the Twelfth of Never?  April snow, that’s  why. Whenever we have April snow you can be sure I’m singing this song. You know, the line “Melt my heart like April snow ”  just won’t get out of my head.

It might have seemed like an April Fool’s joke, but no, Mother Nature decided to “Let there be snow,’ and this is what had me singing sappy love songs on the 25th of April. Just when we’d been tricked into thinking that spring had arrived. I snapped this photo of some Canada  geese that have been hanging around our property lately earlier in the week.

Spring is out there. I guess we need to be a bit more patient…Again.

Is there a certain song that comes to mind during different times in your life? What song is it? Are you old enough, or young enough, to remember the Twelfth of Never?

  1. Well, Donnie Osmond was my first swoon idol, too – I remember that song so well, although I hadn’t thought of it in a few decades. Thought you were going all sappy and romantic on me until I read the significant April line. Can’t think of one right now, but it’s very cool how hearing a song can take you directly back to a particular place/time in your life (for better or worse …)

    • Yup. He was pretty swoonable back in the day and April snow does it for me every time. Still waiting for this to melt, though. 🙂

  2. I wasn’t familiar with that song. I was music deprived in the seventies. I listened to it just now on YouTube, the version by Donny Osmond. Beautiful lyrics. Songs do bring back memories of the times we listened to them. Blessings to you, Laura…

  3. Snippets of songs start playing in my head at odd times, and I usually have no idea what triggers them. Donny is making a comeback, it seems, still all you said. 🙂

    • It’s sometimes quiet difficult to get a song out of our heads. But today the snow is gone and I’ve moved on. My day of nostalgia has come to an abrupt end…until the next time. 😉

I remember that beautiful song, but not Donny Osmond’s version. Looks like everybody did a version re Google! I know what you mean about a lyric coming to mind, but can’t think of any that stand out for me right this minute.

    • Yes, many people covered that song. I was surprised when I looked earlier. Of course, for me, Donny Osmond was THE one.

  5. Hi Laura… all songs of Donnie’s were special to me; I adorned him for years, even painted my bedroom with his favourite YELLOW colour… Reading the lyrics now I can see the words were truly ones from the soul being sung to the human self, gently nurturing them out of their unawareness of the truth… How lovely… thanks for sharing, Barbara x

    • Hi Barbara! I probably haven’t thought of Donny since last April. I was happy for the reminder today. Thanks for dropping in.
