Celebrating & Getting Organized

I recently celebrated my sixth year blogging anniversary. No champagne, no fireworks—just a little notification from WordPress stating the fact. Yippee!

I’m kind of proud of the fact that after six years I’m still blogging. I’ve seen many bloggers come and go over the years. Some of them I still miss from time to time. I started blogging to give people a place to find me once my first book was published, imagining as I did that thousands of people would seek me out. Okay, I’m just joking about the thousands. Back then, I knew nothing about blogging. Most days I still feel that way. It’s kind of a hit and miss. Do I have anything worth saying? Does anyone even care?

What has made blogging so worthwhile to me had been getting to know the blogging community. Truthfully, I wish I had more time to explore all the wonderful blogs out there. I love that the blogging community is so supportive. It’s nice knowing that you can make friends all over the world. Talk about expanding your horizons. Who would have thought this possible a few short years ago? So I thank you all for tuning in when I publish a post and thanks to those non-bloggers who faithfully read. You’re all so awesome. Did I mention I’ve been doing this six years? Of course I did!  😉

What you probably haven’t noticed (unless you have eyes like a hawk) is that I added a new tab on my blog and organized all the guest blog post, just to put them all in one place. It seemed like a good job on a cool June day. Truthfully, I don’t tend to be very organized even though I like things to be orderly. Too bad these things couldn’t happen all on their own.

So that’s what I’ve been doing today, celebrating and organizing. Are you a organized person or do you just muddle through?

  1. Hi, Laura. Am following you. Love the way your page is set up. Can you help me do the same? I’m using the Sela theme, but I can’t seem to get things where I want them on my page. No matter what location I choose in my options, everything ends up in a long column all the way down the right side of the page. Can you help? Thanks.

    • Hi Aleta nice to have you following! Honestly, I’m not sure what to tell you. I think that each theme sets the page up a different way. For instance, when I add a page it automatically puts a tab at the top of my blog in alphabetic order. I know I used to have my posts archived on the side but disabled that option. I think it might just be a matter of playing around with it and seeing what you come up with. Good luck!

  2. Laura, I am an organized person who often muddles through 🙂

Congrats !!! My sixth anniversary with WordPress is in November of this year. I had no idea we started so close together. My very first comment came from our dear friend, Christi Corbett and I do believe I found you through her. I love the idea of it all … and even without thousands … I am pleased that I had met such wonderful people and read so many inspirational posts because of it … Here’s to another great year 🙂 !! 🙂

  4. Congratulations! Don’t the years fly by? Until you mentioned yours, I’d forgotten that my seventh blogging anniversary is coming up this weekend. I’m glad I met you in the cyber writing community. Do you remember the interview we did on my blog back in November 2009 just after you’d launched Bitter, Sweet? — https://careann.wordpress.com/2009/11/02/interview-with-canadian-author-laura-best/

Here’s to many more years of blogging and writing successes! 🙂

    • Thanks, Carol. I think I met you just as you were celebrating your fifty year marriage anniversary! (Unless my memory doesn’t serve me correctly). And I most certainly do remember the interview on your blog. It was the first blog interview I ever did. I was SO thankful for your help in promoting my very first book. First times offer such a learning curve.

Actually, you mentioning this gave me the idea of adding another tab with the interviews I’ve done on other blogs too! Looks like more organizing to do. 🙂

      • That timing sounds about right. Our 50th anniversary was September 2009. Collecting your guest bloggers and your own interviews on their own pages is a nice idea.

  6. Congratulations on six WP years, Laura! I think you are doing just fine with reorganizing things on your blog. It’s thanks to you I was introduced to WordPress and moved my blogging to WP five and a half years ago. I’ve never regretted it.

  8. 6 years is really a long while when you think about in terms of blogging though I’ve been at it for 9 years but I did not stay long in the same url as you. congratulations!

I’ve always been more on the organize side but sometimes, I get lazy and leave the mess the way it is. I think we should do more creative things instead of organizing things, don’t you think?

anyway, I hope you’re having a lovely summer.
