What’s news?

This week marked my blogging anniversary. That’s right! I’ve been hiding out on WordPress for seven years now. The number seven seems significant in that it’s always been said to be a lucky number and aren’t the cells in our bodies all replaced in seven years? I always wondered how they can know this. Regardless, I’ve been here in the blogging world for seven years. I’ve met some wonderful people and I’ve seen many bloggers come and go. Maybe I deserve a pat on the back for making it this far. Also it’s been seven years this fall since Bitter, Sweet came out–just saying.

It’s berry season in my part of the world. Wouldn’t you love to have a field full of these beauties to pick? We’ve been helping some friends with their berry crop for a few days. It’s always a challenge to get them harvested.DSC07511A few weeks back we took a trip to Centreville and stopped off that the Cement Museum which was the home of Charles Macdonald. Unfortunately it wasn’t open for the season, but we took some pics of the statues outside. Quite amazing to think it is all made of cement.  I’m looking forward to seeing the inside once the museum is open.

These cottages were also built by Charles Macdonald in the 1930’s and are in Hall’s Harbour. I think they’re absolutely charming. Some describe them as fairy homes and I can understand. They look so enchanting.

This one is called the Blue Cottage for obvious reasons. I understand that it can be rented!

Outside the museum there were other statues all made by Charles Macdonald.

Love this mountain lion. He looks to be on the hunt. Maybe for the deer that are hanging around the property.

I’m curious about this lovely lady, how and why she ended up here, naked, in the garden. Perhaps there a story there and maybe, just maybe, the answer can be found within the museum itself.

Okay, to many, none of this is earth-shattering news, or even news at all, but just a few things that caught my attention this past while. I’m so glad to say that summer is finally here. I’ve been looking forward to it and hoping I’ll squeeze in some writing time over the next few months.

Do you have any special plans for the summer months? I love to hear about it!

  1. I do hope you get back to the museum and learn more about the lady in the garden. If there is no infromation about her, you might want to create a story for her! Congratualtions on 7 years of blogging! You were one of the first blogers I followed when I started blogging 6 years ago. I have met some other great people from your blog too.

  2. Congratulations and happy blogoversary. Does WordPress notify you? I have my fifth coming up next month but can’t remember what day. All the best. 🙂 You hear it said people online aren’t real. I think they are. I’ve been friends with some since I began blogging.

Summer is finally here too with a vengeance. I hope to catch up on my reading and do editing and polishing so I can move forward on my writing.

    • Yes, WordPress does let you know! Lots of luck with your writing and editing, Tess. I’ve been enjoying your photos of your trip. I find it frustrating sometimes with my dial-up connection because it won’t always let me comment or even “like” a post. I feel as though the service is getting crappier because that didn’t seem to be a problem seven years ago, although I wonder if my upgraded windows from seven years ago isn’t as compatible with dial-up as say Windows XP was. That’s the only thing I can think of. Anyway, I’ll continue to check in and when/if WordPress “allows” me to comment I will! 😀

      • We live in the city and have highest speed internet (5 of us in the house using Wifi), but it still slows to mud through a sieve when I least expect it. Ugh.

  3. Congratulations on seven years of blogging, Laura! I enjoy your blog as much now as I did when I first discovered it. And congratulations on the anniversary of Bitter, Sweet too–wow!

Summer plans? Well, quite a few, but I’ll just share the most exciting tidbit: I’m becoming a grandma for the first time. My daughter is due July 2! 🙂

And re: your photos. I want to rent Blue Cottage sometime! Fairy homes, indeed!

Wishing you a wonderful summer, full of words and adventures,
    Ev

    • Thanks, Ev. There have been times when I slacked off for a few months but I do try to stay with it!

Congratulations on becoming a grandma! That is SUCH exciting news. I love nothing more than being a nanny to our four grandchildren! July 2 is coming up quickly. Of you lucky gal you!

Depends on the type of cell! Different kinds of cells are replaced at different rates. For example; skin cells are replaced after 2 or 3 weeks, red blood cells every 4 months, white blood cells last about a year, and brain cells usually last a lifetime! Every 7 years is a myth 🙂

    • I kind of figured it wasn’t true, Alicia, but I should have checked with a science teacher to be sure! I do wonder where these things come from, though. As for brain cells lasting a life time, I certainly hope mine do. 🙂

  5. I love going to Hall’s Harbour, a place my parents (usually my mum) would take my sister and me when we were little ‘uns.

My plans for the summer? There’s not much sense in making any travel plans when I don’t feel we can be far from my dad or my mother-in-law; both need us around. My plans are for my kitchen to receive a major facelift, and for me to read and write more – the latter being a constant need I fail to accomplish to my satisfaction. I’m in a bit of a writing funk right now.

Sitting outside enjoying strawberries, a lovely white wine, and a good book seems a nice way to enjoy summer, don’t you agree? 🙂

  7. Love those Jelly Bean fairy houses! They definitely spark the imagination. Maybe the cement lady is part of their story???

Congratulations on your Blogiversery! I think I have one coming up near the end of this month, too. Don’t the years slip past quickly?

Summery weather this week has me thinking ahead to holidays. One of our daughters and her hubby are hosting a family reunion one long weekend, plus, now that we’re facing our first summer without an RV, we plan to spend extra time at our little cabin in BC’s Cariboo. It’s extremely “rustic”, with no running water or indoor conveniences, no electricity or cell service. I hope to use some of the quiet time there to make headway on a new novel and do lots of reading. Nothing very ambitious…just my favourite kind of relaxation.

    • Yes, the houses were something else and down close to the ocean. While blogging is sometimes a chore, I’m glad I’ve stuck with it. So many haven’t and I find myself wondering how they are doing.

Your cabin sounds delightful and everything I always imagine a cabin should be. These days people have second homes by the lake. This should give you plenty of writing time with no distractions. Have a great summer.

  8. SEVEN years?! That’s 49 years in blogging life!!! 🙂 A huge congratulations to you.
My biggest summer plans just left – my CA son visited for the week of the 4th with two of his little boys, 6 and 7. We had a blast with the 4th of July local parade and fireworks and a camp out one night and lots of fun time with their cousins (my local grandkids). Like you say, who’d have guessed that we’d have so much fun being grandparents?

Congratulations on 7 years of blogging and the upcoming publications. The berry picking must’ve been fun – a chance to do some sampling at the same time. Regarding those cells, it’s better said your mileage may vary. 😉
