Story Update

I wasn’t sure I’d be able to pull it off but I did. The short story—– it is finished!

I’ve decided I work best under pressure for some reason. When my time is squeezed between a whole bunch of different things that seems to be when I’m more mindful of how precious time really is.  Felt good to set a goal, one that I wasn’t altogether sure I’d be able to meet, and actually get it done.

The short story is a piece I had taken out of another story a few years back titled, “There’s This Thing About Leaving,” published in the fall 2008 edition of Transition (a story within a story).

I decided to break the original story up because the editor suggested it at the time (It did make the story fairly long for publication in the magazine) and because I knew it had the potential to be a whole other story all of its own. At the time, I was sad to see that bit cut but I also understood that it made perfect sense to take it out. By adding to the original cut part I’m more than happy with the final results.

I still haven’t figured out a title for it. A few readings of the story, without trying to pick at it, and I’ll come up with something appropriate and hopefully a bit memorable. I realize that titles are important but at this point a title seems like the least of my worries. Did I mention I completed my short story?

Oh right, I guess I did.

Happy writing to you all.

What goals did you meet this week? If you’d like to share please do.

Just one of those weeks

It’s just been one of those weeks. I can’t say I’ll be sorry to see it come to an end. Evenings have been a blur. Last night I crawled off to bed at 9 o’clock. I don’t know when the last time I’ve done that. Sheesh! I haven’t even got a clue as to who got booted off American Idol this week. If you’re reading this and you know please do tell. I’m behind in visiting my regular blogs. I have managed to get a little reading time in but I’ll get around to all of them real soon.

Wow! That sounded like whining to me. Did that sound like whining to you?

There is a new blog I’m fast becoming a regular reader of and if you click on the link you quickly see why. At least there’s been a bright spot to my days…

Charlotte’s Weblog

I’m still picking away at my short story, the one I promised myself I’d have finished by week’s end. It’s the last in a collection of linked stories or at least I hope it’s the last. I guess time will tell. A little bit of polish afterward and it’ll be set to go!

So how’s your week going? Have you accomplished everything you set out to do? Or are you like me, just waiting for the week to come to an end?

Not Another Article….

Afraid so folks…

As promised I’m including the link for the Register story. I have to say I’m not positive if this will appear in the Kings County Register or the Kentville advertiser. I enjoyed the article and it certainly helped that she had read the book. I think that’s an added bonus for any author. Not all reporters have the time to do so. I fully understand that.

Just so you’re forewarned the photo is about as bad as I earlier predicted so no one has to try and make me feel good about it besides I’m sure by next week that snapshot will be forgotten. Nothing I can do about it now.Right?

I just received a lovely email from a lady who wanted to wish me luck with the book launch and who wanted to tell me she had purchased three copies of “Bitter, Sweet” for Christmas presents. How nice of her to take the time to email! It really gave me a lift… I also received an email the other day from the editor of the literary magazine who published my very first short story about fifteen years ago. Penny had some very encouraging words for me and a bit of advise which was greatly appreciated. Everyone has been so supportive and wonderful I really couldn’t ask for anything more. So if you’re reading this and you’re one of those people you should know that all your kind words and thoughts mean so much to me.
