I looked for Autumn, and she was there, hiding among the foliage, peeking out at me, moving with shy steps into September. Again, it feels too early, and she makes this writer’s heart feel a slight bit melancholy.
Have you seen signs of Autumn where you are?
Carl D'Agostino
/ September 6, 2011Oh yes. In Miami we have 4 wonderful seasons . In autumn it is 320 degrees, in winter 300 degrees, in spring 320 degrees and in summer 400 degrees

/ September 6, 2011I’ve seen a hint of golden leaves, and a few dead ones; however it feels nothing like Autumn, way too hot! It has been cooling a bit in the evening so I’ve gone out a few times just to feel the “almost” crispness.

/ September 6, 2011Ah! Nova Scotia. It must be SO beautiful there.
Thanks for the comment you just posted. This is what I replied:
I would like not to go the self-publishing route. But considering how long it took for my publisher to get my memoir done for me, and now I have to do 99.9% of the marketing; and considering how the clock is ticking and I’ll be 72 next year; and considering that so many people, more and more of my friends, ones I would never have suspected, are getting converted to e-readers, I think I’m going to try it.

/ September 7, 2011There are some very beautiful spots in Nova Scotia. I totally understand your decision. The publishing world moves at a snail’s pace. I’m sure as time goes by we’ll be seeing this more and more. Thanks for dropping in, Ann.

/ September 7, 2011Unfortunately, we don’t see much of a change other than temperature as fall approaches. But I do remember my childhood in Wisconsin, where we would all see who could spot the first red Maple leaf. Your photographs will help me snatch victory this year! 🙂

/ September 7, 2011I’ve been seeing a few coloured leaves for weeks now, but only just this evening got around to taking a few photos. I feel sorry for those of you who do not have the changes that we see in fall. It really is my favourite time of year.

/ September 7, 2011It has been pouring down rain here for days. On Saturday, it was 90 degrees. On Sunday, it was 65 degrees. An abrupt transition to fall!

/ September 7, 2011That is a big drop in temperature, Tracy. We’ve got a fair amount of rain here all year. When we see the sun we celebrate. Here’s hoping fall is not rainy as well. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. 🙂

/ September 8, 2011Love those tinges of red, Laura. Lovely photos. Yes, we are seeing those little hints, too. The cooler mornings and evenings, the shorter days, the red tipped leaves starting to show. I love fall. Too bad winter has to come. I’m not as keen about winter as Loup is.

/ September 8, 2011Thanks, Cathy. I try not and concentrate on the approach of winter, but rather enjoy the fall for everything she has to offer.
If only we could learn to enjoy snow the way Loup does. We’d be all set then.. 🙂

/ September 8, 2011We had a few days of low humidity and cooler temps, but warmer ones have returned. I’m not ready to say goodbye to summer just yet, so that’s ok with me. I’m trying NOT to see signs of fall, but can’t help but notice a leaf tumbling to the ground here and there.

/ September 8, 2011I’m still looking forward to these last days of summer as well. I think we actually had one full week of sunshine this summer. Ah well. It’s still better than snow. It is difficult not to take notice of these small reminders that summer is coming to and end. We are continually faced with beginnings and endings, aren’t we?

/ September 9, 2011Carl’s not too far off when it comes to South Florida weather – ugh! (And we get thunderstorms every afternoon down here between 2 & 3PM). I split time between Ft Lauderdale & St Augustine (real home). NE Florida’s climate is less extreme. I live at the ocean &, since there’s always a breeze, it’s typically 5+ degrees warmer in winter & 5+ degrees cooler in summer – so that’s a plus. Do miss fall but not the winter snow & cold. The only obvious sign of winter here (@ home) is the lawn – goes dormant mid January thru February & looks like straw – but … we actually have contractors that will “paint” the lawn green. (I do like hanging out on the beach in January.) Sorry – cheap shot.

/ September 9, 2011Well, in January in these parts, there are a few Polar Bear Dips taking place, but knowing this does not make your “cheap shot” sting any less. While I can brag about fall and show off her colours I can’t compete with contrators who pain lawns in January… LOL

/ November 10, 2011I reside in Florida..and the only way you can tell the season change is by the decorations in the retail stores..and the temp of the water in my pool…right now when I go in within seconds from my waist down I am frozen..can exercise long time..( can’t feel the pain) when I get out I thaw..much pain…winter is a coming.
I grew up in the northeast and do miss that first snow, flakes falling on your face, fireplace glowing, hot toddies, snuggling under a down comforter..waking up having to shovel the snow/ice car won’t start…eh..on second thought..sitting in a chair on the patio with the sun on my face, reading a good book in the middle of winter doesn’t sound so bad…but, I do miss the colours of Autumn…thanks for asking…by the way my new book “Whatever I’m Still Here” is now published..love the pics Laura..
